  • As an interior designer, there are some items I'd grab at Pottery Barn and a few I'd pass on.
  • The store's holiday floral arrangements made me feel like I was in a winter wonderland.
  • However, I wasn't a huge fan of some of the placemats and the flameless candles.

As an interior designer, fall is one of my favorite seasons to decorate for because of the sense of warmth it evokes within a home.

Known for its upscale, casual-yet-stylish home furnishings, Pottery Barn offers a wide range of products for every room in the house.

I think it serves as a good option to find a diverse selection of high-quality decor and furniture items at a range of price points.

I recently visited my local Pottery Barn in Los Angeles, and discovered a host of beautiful decor products guaranteed to elevate any space, from textured pillows to artful vases, as well as some items I could do without. Here they are.

As a color enthusiast, I tend to focus on highlighting jewel-toned palettes in interior design.

However, these gorgeous beige, brown, and tan throw pillows with different plush textures quickly caught my eye. They added depth and warmth to the cream couch they were displayed on, instantly making me want to rest on it and rethink my relationship to color.

I think it's essential to purchase throw pillows for your furniture that not only elevate the design, but also encourage you and your guests to relax and feel comfortable. These chic throw pillows do the trick.

I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful, textured vases I saw at Pottery Barn.

There were a variety of options in shades of black, gray, and blue, with some appearing to be made of ceramic and others of terracotta. I liked that all the vases were versatile and seemed like they could be placed indoors and outdoors.

Plus, they work as stand-alone decorative pieces, or you could add flowers or other plants to them.

Given the diversity of the sizes and shapes of these pieces, I think it'd be easy to mix and match them in clusters to curate visual interest in any part of your home.

If you're looking for a fabulous tablescape for the fall months, I think Pottery Barn has you covered.

The intricately embroidered table runner, dazzling coupe cocktail glasses, and gold-rimmed plates with florals and turkeys sketched onto them all caught my eye in the in-store display.

Together, I think these pieces would easily impress guests.

Despite being in sunny LA, I felt like I was in a winter wonderland when I looked at Pottery Barn's holiday floral arrangements.

From faux poinsettias to red berries and juniper trees, the arrangements were gorgeous, instantly putting me in a cheerful mood and making me excited to add holiday-specific elements throughout my home.

Some of my favorite items were the faux juniper and berry bundle ($40) and the faux oversized red berry branch ($100).

Although they're a bit pricey, in my opinion, I think they're totally worth it.

I liked that this chair was both comfortable and elegant.

Classic, sophisticated, and current — I think swivel chairs like the Ayden will instantly elevate any living room or dining room. It also felt comfortable to sit in when I tested it out in the store.

As a designer, I encourage my clients to select furniture that is both restful and elegant, enhancing the space. This armchair checks all of the boxes.

Pottery Barn also offers other chairs in similar shapes, such as the Remmy, which can be upholstered in a variety of fabrics and colors, but I especially liked this beige suede.

On the other hand, I'd probably skip some of the placemats at Pottery Barn.

These rattan placemats didn't wow me visually.

Though I was impressed with the tablescapes in the store, I wasn't wowed by every placemat I saw, such as the round Tava rattan option.

Though they're handwoven and made of rattan, the texture felt a little cheap to me — almost like it had a plastic coating. They're certainly versatile, but the design didn't feel unique or that visually interesting to me.

At $76 for a set of four, I also don't think they're worth the price. Instead, I'd look for placemats made of different materials or even visit a local vintage store to find more interesting options at half the cost.

Flameless candles still haven't won me over.

Most of the candles I saw at my local Pottery Barn were flameless. Though this type of candle may be ideal for some people who are sensitive to smells or have kids running around, I prefer real candles in my home.

As a bit of a candle snob and fanatic, I often place them in my bedroom, living room, bathroom, and kitchen, and like to curate the scents I burn to set the tone in each space. This time of year, I usually lean toward vanilla, bergamot, and jasmine scents.

Instead, a few of my favorite places to shop are Colvon, a boutique online shop that makes hand-poured candles with fabulous scents for under $50, and West Elm, which has options starting around $30.

I wasn't that impressed by Pottery Barn's comforters or sheets.

My local Pottery Barn's comforter selection left me underwhelmed. Most of the options I saw were white, beige, or taupe. Although some had fun textures and more colors are available online, I wish I could've seen more in the store.

Given the price point — many queen styles cost over $150 — I wish the comforters I saw had been thicker and fluffier.

These could be a good choice for someone interested in a simple, lighter comforter, but I'd probably shop elsewhere for something with more colorful patterns and more unique textured trims.

Personally, I'd pass on the sheets, too. My store didn't have many colorful options, and though there were a few subtle prints and more varieties online, I wasn't impressed.

Many of the sheets I touched, like a 400-thread-count set made from organic cotton percale, felt pretty thin and not as soft as I'd expect for starting around $120.

Everyone's sheet preferences vary, so these might be great for someone else. Either way, I encourage my clients to prioritize comfort and sheets that feel soft and durable — something they'd actually enjoy lying on.
