Look around a middle school, high school, or even college campus, and you'll probably notice Gen Alpha and Gen Z girls in oversized pastel hoodies with a palm tree logo. This is the Pink Palm Puff hoodie — an $89 sweatshirt that has become a status symbol for young girls.
For the "Well Spent" podcast, we talked to Lily Balaisis, the 17-year-old founder of clothing brand Pink Palm Puff. (You can read our full profile of Balaisis and her company here.) Balaisis tells us about how she was inspired to launch the company at such a young age, how she gets it done while still in school, and why she thinks young people love hoodies so much.
"Teens these days, if you ask them what makes a hoodie special, they have a phrase, 'what makes a hoodie a hoodie,'" Balaisis said. And while she thinks the fabric softness is key, there's another element: "For Pink Palm Puff, the unboxing moment is another huge thing for the brand. I've seen people collect the boxes."
